.Ornaments - Vintage Cotton Ornaments

Cotton ornaments were popular items in the well-known ornament producing regions of Europe during the late 1890's - 1920's primarily, and were displaced by the growing market for glass ornaments. Cotton was molded around wire frames, covered with a coating of glue to give the ornament a relatively smooth surface, and painted to the likeness of the animal or person. In some cases, pieces of clothing, skis, and other props were added for effect. Cotton ornaments were often placed at the bottom of the Christmas tree, since they were unbreakable, and children often kept them after the holidays as toys. They were also used as table-top decorations in family homes.

These were purchased from the Czech Republic, and most likely hail from Eastern Europe. They are old, certainly pre-WWII,  and likely older. They have been "well loved" over the years! They are truly charming, and will make wonderful additions to your collection.
