Italian ornaments are known for their artistic, free blown, hand painted forms. Italians have been known for their beautiful and high quality glass for centuries. Italy's ornament industry originated in the northern regions, bordering Germany and Austria. Italian ornaments were first imported to the U.S. in the early 1950's, and have continued to be popular with collectors ever since. These ornaments are free blown and shaped with paddles and other tools to control the form of the hot glass. Note the carefully hand painted details in the faces and other aspects of the ornament decoration.
